Industrial Biotech Commercialization
Vatshal Bhanushali is a Principal and first full-time hire at Hawkwood Biotech Partners, a global consulting firm dedicated exclusively to industrial and food biotechnology. At Hawkwood, his work spans techno-economic modeling, manufacturing strategy, and commercial strategy and market landscaping for clients across the industrial biotech and foodtech sectors. Through Hawkwood's collaboration with Genoa Ventures, Vatshal also supports the firm's industrial biotech and foodtech investment activities.
Vatshal trained as a chemical engineer at the University of Mumbai, before going on to build his early career at Lupin and Glenmark, two of India's leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, where he worked on process development, scale-up, and technology transfer of active pharmaceutical ingredients from bench to commercial scale. He subsequently completed a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering at UC Berkeley through the Product Development Program (PDP), a distinctive professional program designed to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and commercial reality.
Prior to joining Hawkwood, Vatshal worked directly with early-stage materials science and synthetic biology companies in the Bay Area, supporting process development and manufacturing strategy. He also contributed to investment diligence and portfolio strategy at Vectors Capital, an early-stage climate tech and deep tech fund.
