Biotechnologist

Tony is a Venture Partner at Genoa Ventures.

He is a seasoned biotechnology executive with a unique skill-set at the intersection of business and scientific disciplines with 25 years of experience and leadership roles in both R&D and Business Development.

His domain expertise ranges from enzymology and molecular genetics to regulation of novel foods, sustainability, and NGO issues. He is an inventor on more than 40 patents.

Tony is a co-founder and managing partner at Hawkwood Biotech Partners, the leading consultancy focused on helping early-stage industrial biotech and food tech companies scale. He is also CTO at Bond Pets, a clean-meat pet food company.

He was the sixth employee at Solazyme, joining in 2006 as the Head of R&D. Later he took on the role of VP of Commercialization. As VP of Commercialization, Tony led and co-led many of Solazyme’s seminal early partnership deals. He has also run a pop-up restaurant (“30 Knot Gourmet”), specializing in cassoulet.

Tony was a recipient of the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award in 2014.

He is a chemist and enzymologist by training. He received his Ph.D. from Imperial College, London, and completed postdoctoral studies under Professor Sir Alan Fersht FRS at the University of Cambridge.
